Vivid Sydney – Inspired Interior by My Decorator
MD MeanderingsProposed foyer design for Performing Arts Co.

A few Friday nights ago we went into the city to take in the amazing atmosphere at Vivid Sydney 2013. We enjoyed dinner and drinks first at the Opera Bar and then wandered around Circular Quay and The Rocks to see all the different visual light displays.
I couldn’t help but let my designer mind go to thinking how some of the amazing images that were projected onto the Opera House could be used in Interior spaces. So to capture this creative thinking I have put together a 3D image for an Old Warehouse of a Performing Arts Company that shows what some Vivid could look like in a Commercial setting (pictured above). The proposed foyer would have a huge artwork image of the opera house (vivid a fied) hanging in the foyer with some quirky performing arts bowler hats as pendants and tan leather barcelona chairs to create a warm friendly welcome to any visitors.
I hope you had the opportunity to go and see Vivid Sydney 2013, if you didn’t have a look at the slideshow I put together of some of the photos we took. I would also love to read your thoughts and experiences of Vivid Sydney 2013 so feel free to comment below.
Go dottie!
Interior Design and Decorator TipsWho said interiors had to be serious? Lately I’ve been into dots. Coloured, polka dot, large dots, all dots.
I think adding some dot accents to your home can bring some fun, dots are fresh, bright and cheery!
We all know that dots have been around forever but I’ve noticed that fashion has recently gone a tad dottie, see here:
So be inspired and add some dottie quirkiness to your interior today for an instant summer hit.
SHOP DOTS
Below are some dots in action with the occasional quirky pattern thrown in for good measure. I like to use dots in accents for the interiors I design, such as cushions, pictures etc… that way when you tire of them you can easily replace them with another plain or pattern print.
Delightful decals!
Interior Design and Decorator TipsToday I thought I would blog about decals. For those that don’t know decals are like a transfer of an image or a particular design made out of vinyl that through the use of heat or pressure gets transferred from one surface to another.
I think custom decals bring an element of originality and wow to a space when used tastefully. We have one in our entry of our home and we always get positive feedback from our visitors.
I know that you can buy decals in spotlight and other department stores but if you are after a custom made decal head here. Edith and Elizabeth create beautiful custom made decals. My Decorator can also work with you if you have an idea but don’t know how to make it work in your room.
Hope you are all having a lovely week!

Lace inspired interiors
Interior Design and Decorator Tips
Cute dresser, it looks as though a stencil has been used to create this look. Nice idea, it would also look fabulous with a beautiful white framed mirror too.

I really like the two examples above of how lace, which is a traditional weave and antique or vintage style has been given a modern twist!
If you want to do some D.I.Y. lace creating check this gorgeous dresser out (see below) that Kara from Kara Paslay designs resurrected with a lace stencil. http://karapaslaydesigns.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/mini-makeover-lackluster-to-lacy-looker.html
