No I’m not going to break into song Mariah Carey style……. but I do want to share what I feel makes a room go from beige to wow, or drab to fab
I visited Homeworld at Kellyville recently as I have had a number of my clients say they want the interiors of their newly built homes to have the same feel as the display homes at Homeworld.
The new homes that are being built around the Hills District of Norwest Sydney, in The Ponds, Stanhope Gardens, Kellyville, Rouse Hill, Bella Vista, Glenhaven areas are an excellent example of quality cutting edge design and lifestyle friendly living.
I found a lot of the builders have tried to create a point of difference in their home designs which means a greater range of options are available to home buyers. A few that I discovered were the addition of cloakrooms in the foyers of Sekisui Houses homes, these were a well thought out inclusion, as often people now like to store their shoes and jackets, sports equipment in a common area. The family living area that incorporates outdoor entertaining really captures our Australian way of life and is now seen as standard in these new homes and also gives increase use of our Aussie backyard but the outworking of this vary with each home design.
What happens when you finish building your brand new home, move in and realise that your reality doesn’t match your ideal (that beautiful display home that first gave you the desire to build in the first place)? You think – – ‘Our dream home is built, but they didn’t furnish my interior!!’ I’m still sitting on the same lounge, dining at the same table, sleeping in the same bed and it all looks the same but just in a different location. You feel frustrated because of the gap between your home and the display home.
My Decorator wants to work with you to close that gap. We would love to find out what you envisage the interior of your home to look like and then work with you as little or as much as you like to help you achieve the desired outcome for your new homes interior design so that your dream will be complete. We will work to a budget, make recommendations on floor and window coverings, furniture, art, decorator accessories, lighting, paint colours, wallpaper and what extra additions you could introduce that will bring the desired WOW factor that you are after. Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways – Oscar Wilde
I love colour. When used well it can really make a room sing. But how do you work out what colour to paint your walls?
I guess as a starting point it comes down to having a think about the room, it’s use, it’s user and it’s location.
Is the room small or large? If it’s small you don’t want to go painting it a dark colour as this will close the space in.
What’s the room used for? Children’s bedroom? Probably don’t want to paint this orange as it is a very stimulating colour and you may not get your children to bed at night, rather choose a restful colour blue or pink. Accents of orange or red are fine just not in large doses.
Who is using the space? What are their colour likes and dislikes, how do certain colours make the user feel?
Location of the room needs to be considered when choosing your paint colour. How much natural light the room gets and the direction it faces plays a part too.
Lastly just choose a colour that makes you happy and enjoy your space!
