Transitional Style Home

This client was after assistance with her entry, formal lounge, formal dining, family and meals areas of her home. Her brief was for us to create a warm, welcoming and elegant home.

In the formal lounge, our client had inherited this beautiful traditional two seater lounge with matching armchairs that were upholstered in a classic Sanderson floral from her Grandmother. She wanted to keep them but have the pieces styled in a new way (she didn’t want the room feeling old). We recommended a transitional interior style for this space, and brought in a new custom upholstered and sized lounge (under the bay) in a neutral, had a classic shell design custom rug made in a soft blue-green that was inspired by the floral in the lounge upholstery. We added a lovely old world globe floor lamp and styled the lounges with new cushions and placed a clover mirror base tray on the coffee table with some roses. Curtains are still to come for the uncovered sliding doors, but we wanted to show you the progress so far and the surrounding garden just compliments this room beautifully anyway, don’t you agree?

The formal dining furniture all stayed, we added another matching custom rug like the one in the formal lounge as the rooms are right next to each other with a two-way fireplace dividing them. We styled the crescent table with a dome lantern, a bouquet of roses and feature art that was hung at eye level, so it can be enjoyed when people are sitting and standing. The art also complements the pieces chosen in the walkway that can be seen from the formal dining room so it was important that these pieces had a common thread.  The antique crockery and ornaments in the display cabinet were all styled.  The drinks cart was stocked with crystal decanters of various liquors and glasses.

The entry can be seen from the formal dining room so it was important that the styling in this area was consistent.  A stunning transitional hand woven floor rug was chosen to sit in the very centre of the large entry with striking art to compliment the existing pendants and furniture.

Our client wanted the family area of the home to allow for the family to relax, socialise, be comfortable and for it to feel warm and friendly.  We continued the transitional interior style in this area, however, were sure that it had a slightly more contemporary feel to it. Two lounges and two accent chairs in a lovely modern classic print were chosen, we then had coordinating cushions made for the lounges.  A square feature timber coffee table added warmth to the space and everything was placed on a lovely soft knit floor rug in a neutral.  A floor lamp with timber feature was placed in the corner and the existing bookshelf was restyled with a mix of book, family photos and decorator accessories making for a stylish yet relaxing room for the family to enjoy.
