Pantone Colour of the Year and How to use it in the Interior Design of your Home

Interior Design and Decorator Tips

Every year Pantone announces their colour of the year, a colour that they perceive is predicted to be trending in a big way through fashion and interiors that year.

The Pantone Colour of 2019 is Living Coral.  It is an animated, life-affirming shade of orange, with golden undertones.

Living Coral to me appears to be a stronger digression from the soft blush that we have been seeing in interiors for a few years now.  I often reserve saturated and warm reds and oranges for accents in my interiors that I design.  So I will be using this colour in small doses in scatter cushions, part of a print colour scheme for art and rugs, maybe for a feature accent chair for a fun pop of colour.

The key thing to keep in mind with Living Coral is that it is quite a warm colour.  With our warm Australian climate colour psychology comes into play, where too much of this colour say painted onto all the walls of a room will make us feel hot and intense, while in cooler climates this may be welcomed, here in Australia that just won’t be the case.  Unless you are particularly wanting to feel warm and cocooned of course, then using more Living Coral colouring will achieve this.

Living Coral pairs beautifully with blues, teals, greens, golds, neutrals also with whites and blacks.

If you are wanting to inject some of this trending colour into your home’s interior an easy update is to bring this colour into your home with scatter cushions, just be sure to tie the colour into your interior in other areas too, like art and decorator accessories so the look is cohesive.
