A Cosy Haven – Transforming an Unused Living Space into a Used One

Our client had an unused Formal Lounge and Dining Room in her home and was wanting to reclaim the dormant room and actually use it on a much more regular basis.

We gleaned a client brief and then took the time to put together recommendations based on her brief which we used to create a Moodboard, that illustrated the vision and detail of what the finished look of the room could be. We presented this to our client, and once they were happy with the design direction we then commenced implementation. Shopping trips, ordering, working with their builder and then final styling lead to what you see below.

The above is a selection taken from the Moodboard created for this project.

We moved the dining table out and made the space into two separate sitting zones, that had the option to become one large sitting area when needed.  A beautiful fireplace and custom built-in cabinetry created a focal point for the room.  Two plush swivel chairs sat in front of the fireplace with a mirror side table creating a cosy sitting nook, with a striking pendant that was hung to fill the space and create some drama in the room.

Dining area transformed into a lovely cosy sitting nook.

The larger sitting area consists of a 3-seater and 2-seater contrasting fabric upholstered contemporary low-line lounges. A black frame glass top coffee table to keep the space feeling open. A low-line tv unit that picks up the existing interior style found throughout the home. Floor lamp to bring soft ambience. Large generous floor rugs chosen to bring in some simple definite print and lightness. Generous size artwork is abstract in style and ties the colour scheme together beautifully.  The room was styled with decorator items that pick up the new contemporary style of the room and gives a subtle nod to the existing interior style of the home so that the new space sits well in the existing home rather than being separate.

Formal Lounge transformed into a casual sitting area.

Our clients now have a beautiful, but more user-friendly space they can sit in and enjoy as a family or entertain in when they have guests.

This is what our client had to say about working with us:

Prue was amazing for helping us to revamp our dining/lounge room into a beautiful cosy built-in fireplace living room.  Prue researched and choose all our furniture, sculpture pieces and artwork which all came so beautiful together.  I am very proud to show off my new makeover living room.  Prue is very understanding and patient to work with.  I highly recommend My Decorator for any makeover room.. don’t hesitate to contact Prue!!
